European Co-operation Day 2014 across Europe
After two successful editions, the third edition of European Co-operation Day took place all across Europe and in neighbouring countries on 21 September 2014 and throughout the surrounding weeks. More than 120 local events were organised during this period in 32 different countries, ranging from project fairs to circus performances, from bike rides to film festivals, and from music concerts to diverse competitions.

In addition, an EC Day video contest  'Border issues, border solutions' was also launched, inviting European projects and programmes, and individual filmmakers to share their videos highlighting the results and benefits of co-operation in Europe. Highlights from European Cooperation Day in the HURO border region
In 2014, the Hungary-Romania Cross-Border Co-operation Programme 2007-2013 took part in many fun and entertaining activities organised mainly in Oradea (Romania), promoting not only the programme and its results but also cycling, as an environmental-friendly mode of transport, in both urban and rural areas. Other activities organised by HURO projects in other locations from the border area featured, among others, the screening of the movie ‘Usturoi (Garlic)’ in Gottlob, the opening of the Ady Endre memorial house in Satu Mare County and an international folk dance festival in Sănnicolau Mare.

The activities organised all through the weekend of 20-21 September by the Oradea Regional Office for Cross Border Co-operation and the JTS, in partnership with the Municipality of Oradea, ProBikers Association and the Oradea State Philharmonics were various, including a press conference, an exhibition of programme results, several bike competitions, a critical mass ride, as well as a classical music concert.

On 20 September, 150 cyclists and 11 families rolled together in the BikeFest Semi Marathon, a competition organised for mountain bike lovers. On the same day, in the 1 Decembrie Park, more than 50 skilled bikers could also test their artistry on wheels within the BikeTrial Gravity Fighters national championship. Both events were attended by a large number of participants, coming from Romania and Hungary. Several HURO promotional gifts were distributed to the competitors during these activities, including EC-day T-shirts and lunch boxes.

On 21 September, we prepared just the right programme for those who are not typical marathon runners but are still fond of biking and saving the environment! All they needed was a bit of enthusiasm to cycle with us on the new bike path connecting Oradea and Berettyóújfalu, which is financed by the BEORKER project. The tour started in Borş Commune and ended in Oradea, in Magnoliei Park, right in time for the participants to join the BikeFest Critical Mass. Critical mass events aim to increase awareness towards using alternative and non-polluting means of transportation. This year, around 1000 people rolled along together towards the finish line.

As for the second part of the day, celebrations continued with a classical music concert performed by Oradea Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring a mixed repertoire of well-known Romanian and Hungarian composers. The concert closing the series of events proved once again that great music transcends borders, and is the best way to bring people together.
